Sue Roberts is Chair of the Year of Care Programme Board with responsibility for overseeing the practical delivery of the project.
She was National Clinical Director for Diabetes from 2003 – 2008 having previously worked for nearly 30 years as a consultant physician, then Clinical Director, and budget holder, pioneering structured and integrated diabetes care across North Tyneside and Northumberland. She was in active clinical practice until 2007.
She has a particular interest in the delivery of patient centred services for people with Long Term Conditions and in the mainstream change that is needed to support this, including specific approaches to support for self management. She helped to introduce rigorously evaluated structured education programmes for people with diabetes into the UK. She currently advises commissioners on the design and procurement of services for people with long term conditions (LTCs) using evidence based and best practice approaches which include these aspects.
