Alf is a Consultant in Pain Management at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton; he also works in Primary Care. He passionately believes that it is the job of the health service to support people with long term conditions to develop confidence in managing their own health.
Alf has spent the last five years working with the long term conditions and self care policy teams at the Department of Health. He was Chair of the DH/SHA self care network in 2007-8 and a member of the DH long term conditions board from 2006-9. He chairs the SHA LTC clinical leadership network and is clinical advisor in workforce development and patient engagement to the LTC team. Alf is currently seconded to work two days a month with the Health Foundation as national clinical lead of its core patient engagement project: the Co-creating Health Initiative.
